NEW OPERATING GUIDELINES TAKE EFFECT JULY 1st

Effective Wednesday, July 1, 2020, the Juniata County Annex Building front door, located on 30 N. Main St. Mifflintown, will be opened to members of the public needing to conduct business at the Annex or Bousum Buildings.  The Bousum Building front door, located on 26 N. Main St., Mifflintown, and the Annex Building rear entrance door will remain locked until further notice.  Individuals are reminded that face masks are required unless special instructions for court related events state otherwise.  All posted safety procedures and social distancing markers must be observed.

The primary drop off and pick up area for essential documents will continue to be at the Bridge Street entrance of the County Courthouse unless other arrangements have been made.

County offices shall maintain the right to see clientele by appointment only.  Please scroll down for a complete listing of offices and telephone numbers.  Members of the public are strongly advised to contact the office of interest for any special instructions prior to arriving.Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we continue to implement preventive measures designed to protect the health and safety of the residents and employees of Juniata County.  All days and hours of operation remain unchanged.

PRESS RELEASE

Effective June 1, 2020, Juniata County Government facilities will be open to the public by pre-arranged appointment only.  Individuals needing to conduct county related business must contact the office they need via telephone or email for specific instructions related to services for that office.  IF it is determined that the requested services must be conducted onsite, individuals will be provided with a specific date and time for their appointment. 

Juniata County will continue to utilize remote technologies and alternative delivery methods to provide as many services as possible until further notice.

All visitors with approved appointments must wear a face mask and observe social distancing protocols while on County property.

Drop Off/Pick Up Area:  The primary drop off and pick up area for essential documents will continue to be at the Bridge Street entrance of the County Courthouse unless other arrangements have been made.

County Courthouse Business:  Members of the public wishing to conduct business in the County Courthouse must contact the appropriate office listed below for a pre-arranged appointment and/or other instructions.  Upon arrival, individuals having pre-approved, scheduled appointments, must use the Bridge Street entrance of the Courthouse and check-in with security personnel.    Special accommodations will be made for handicapped individuals.

Courthouse Annex and Bousum Building Business:  Members of the public wishing to conduct business in the County Courthouse Annex or adjacent Bousum Building must contact the appropriate office listed below for a pre-arranged appointment and/or other instructions.  Upon arrival, individuals having pre-approved, scheduled appointments, must call the office number provided with their instructions.  Once the appointment is confirmed, individuals will be allowed to enter the Annex front door located on Main Street and will be escorted to their destination.  Special accommodations will be made for handicapped individuals.  All approved visitors must exit using the Bousum building front door located on Main Street.  All entrance doors for the Annex and Bousum Buildings and other offsite facilities will continued to be locked until further notice.

Register of Wills, Recorder of Deeds & Clerk of Orphans Court

TITLE SEARCHING:
All searching will be by appointment only and will be limited to 2 (two) searchers at a time. Appointments can be requested by calling the Register and Recorder’s Office before 4:00 PM the day prior to having an appointment scheduled – no emails or walk-ins. If your name is not on the schedule you will be denied entry to the Courthouse. Appointments will be scheduled for two (2) hours with the first appointment at 8:00 AM and the last appointment at 2:00 PM. Each appointment will be for the duration of 105 minutes in order to give the staff time to sanitize work areas. Only one employee per organization will be permitted per day. Bring only the bare minimum items necessary for the work that needs to be done.
RECORDING/FILING:
The current practice of placing documents to be recorded or filed in the drop off box at the entrance to the Courthouse and sending documents through the mail will continue. There will be no recording or filing documents at the counter unless you are there for a scheduled appointment. Please follow the Judicial Order for anything filed in the Clerk of Orphans’ Court.
MARRIAGE LICENSE APPLICATIONS:
All applications will be by appointment only. For now, applications will be processed during a Zoom meeting. Please contact the office for details.

PASSPORT APPLICATIONS:

An appointment is required to apply for passports.  Please call the Prothonotary’s Office to schedule.  We will review all needed documents for application with you at the time of the call.  Please note:  Due to COVID-19, the Department of State has limited its U.S. passport operations.  Customers can still apply at a passport acceptance facility for routine service only.  However, Passport Services will not be able to meet its usual processing time of 6-8 weeks for routine service.  Customers should expect significant delays beyond the time period it normally takes to receive their passport and citizenship evidence documents.  There is no expedited service at this time.   For the latest passport information on Passport Services operations, please visit their website at travel.state.gov or you can follow at @travelgov on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Tax Claim Bureau

Due to the Covid 19 shut down and the Courthouse being closed to the public, the Upset Sale legal agreements will be handled differently this year.
The agreements will be done over the telephone and through the mail instead of in person. When you received your Upset Sale notice from the Juniata County Tax Claim Bureau, you will need to contact the Bureau at (717)436-7705 for instructions on setting up your legal agreement.

Please do not arrive at the Courthouse, at this time it is closed to the public and you will not be admitted.
