Due to the Covid 19 shut down and the Courthouse being closed to the public, the Upset Sale legal agreements will be handled differently this year.
The agreements will be done over the telephone and through the mail instead of in person. When you received your Upset Sale notice from the Juniata County Tax Claim Bureau, you will need to contact the Bureau at (717)436-7705 for instructions on setting up your legal agreement.
Please do not arrive at the Courthouse, at this time it is closed to the public and you will not be admitted.
Brenda J Varner Tax Claim Director
The Tax Claim Bureau is responsible for the collection of delinquent real estate taxes for all areas of Juniata County. These taxes consist of County, Township, Borough and School District Real Estate Taxes.
Property Owners who do not pay their taxes to the Township or Borough Tax Collectors by December 31st on their tax notice are reported to the Tax Claim Bureau for further collection. The Property owners are notified by Certified Mail and are requested to contact the Tax Claim Office in order to satisfy the account or to make payment arrangement. A penalty is assessed to each tax bill once the Tax Claim Office has been notified of the delinquency.
Should property owners fail to comply with the payment of taxes to the Tax Claim Bureau, the property will be sold at a tax-sale to be held in September of each year. The monies collected are returned to the appropriate taxing body.
